Yelta was launched at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island Dockyard in 1949. It is powered by a triple expansion steam engine built for a corvette during the Second World War, which became surplus when the war ended. Yelta was built for the Adelaide Steamship Company and spent its working life in Port Adelaide.

You can take a trip back in time and explore Port Adelaide like never before, tickets are only $30 per person. View the vestiges of the Port’s maritime past – Hart’s Mill, Fletcher’s Slip and the beautiful view from the river. Glimpse the unique Port River dolphins playing along the river and enjoy a unique view of the Torrens Island Quarantine Station.

Yelta cruises leave the wharf at 12:45pm and return at 3:00pm. Please be at the wharf at 12:00pm and check-in at the red Port Adelaide lighthouse to receive your boarding pass.

It takes three days to fire up the boiler on a steam tug. To ST Yelta’s boiler in action without having to leave dry land, stop by the vessel at its Queen’s Wharf berth between 10am and 4pm on the Thursdays and Fridays prior to scheduled cruise weekends. Come and say hello to our volunteers who will be hard at work preparing the vessel for cruising.

Please note: Tickets are $30 per person and museum entry is included in the ticket price on the day of the cruise. Check in with museum staff at the Lighthouse, located Black Diamond Square at 12:15pm. Concession prices are not available for this cruise and we are unable to take passengers under 5 years of age.
