The Quarantine Station was built in 1879 to stop passengers bringing diseases such as small pox into Adelaide. Today, the site is remarkably intact and evokes the experiences of passengers placed in quarantine from the 1880s to the 1960s.
On the tour you will see the bathing blocks that separated first and second class passengers, the boiler house used to power fumigation, the morgue and the isolation hospital. The character of the buildings, the history of the site and the ambience of the natural environment make the Quarantine Station a very evocative place.
Tours depart from the South Australian Maritime Museum. Please check in with museum officers on arrival. Access to the Torrens Island Quarantine Station is by bus. Visitors need to be able to walk over grass fields and gravel paths for 90 minutes. Total tour length is approximately two hours. Closed toe shoes are compulsory.
There are three time slots offered: 10am, 11:15am and 12:45pm

- Travel to the Quarantine Station is by Maritime Museum bus.
- Ticket purchases are non-refundable however, tour transfers can be arranged.
- In the event of inclement weather, tours may be postponed and rescheduled.
- Closed toe shoes and long pants are required for this tour.
