Ten Pound Poms

The History Trust of South Australia in partnership with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and Essex Cultural Diversity Project presents TEN POUND POMS!

Time Will Tell Theatre are delighted to be bringing a new version of their successful play, ‘Ten Pound Poms’ to the people of Port Adelaide! In the intimate setting of the much loved South Australian Maritime Museum, Ten Pound Poms will tell the story of nearly a million Brits who left their homes to start a new life on the other side of the world. This play shares the experience of ordinary people setting out on a great adventure. Will their hopes and dreams come true? Only time will tell!

The ‘Ten Pound Pom’ scheme was the colloquial term for the general Assisted Passage Migration Scheme, launched in 1945 to enable British migrants from any British colony to go to Australia for the price of £10. The project seeks to explore the themes and stories of outward migration, to celebrate cultural heritage and legacy.

Ten Pound Poms is free with your museum ticket purchase.
