Young Matthew Flinders enlisted in the Royal Navy at the age of 16, inspired by the book ‘Robinson Crusoe’ and a dream to explore unknown lands.
Over the subsequent 20 years of his life at sea, Flinders’ achievements as a navigator and captain were astonishing.
We invite you to join us at the Maritime Museum on Saturday 16 March as we acknowledge the remarkable accomplishments of Matthew Flinders on the 250th anniversary of his birth.
