Join Australia’s premier shanty band The Lost Quays in front of the Museum’s ketch to hear about the origin of shanties, and then learn to sing some yourself, with easy but interesting harmonies – and with the opportunity to write a verse or two for a shanty. Bring a bottle of water and your best singing voice!

PYRATES! is a musical like no other.
A storm of passion, sword fights, and dangerous desire on the high seas. Cast out of England, John Husk is hurled into a world of violence when his ship is torn apart by pirates. Faced with death, he chooses life under the black flag, drawn to the fierce Barbary pirate Badas. Will steel cut deeper than loyalty? Meanwhile, when the Captain’s wife, Eliza Power, discovers John and Badas’ love, she seizes her chance for freedom. With mutiny in the air and blades flashing, hearts and throats are on the line. Will love survive, or will fate carve its own brutal ending?
Inspired by the true(ish) story of John Husk, who fought alongside Blackbeard.

Loucas Loizou was born in Cyprus to Greek parents. He studied classical guitar and Pianoforte with the London’s Trinity College of Music. He studied theatre directing with NIDA in Sydney and Film with the Radio and the Film school in Sydney. He worked with the BBC in London and with the CyBC TV in Cyprus. He appeared in numerous TV and radio programs including the ABC.

After a successful 2022 Fringe season, come aboard a musical journey with Adelaide’s own Silk Strings Ensemble. Pairing three Chinese huqin with a cello in a quartet, the group will embark on a voyage exploring folk and traditional music from around the globe in an intimate setting. The diversity of music chosen originates from Asia, Europe, the Americas and Australia.
This concert offers audiences a fresh perspective on these musical genres within a lush and unique soundscape and paired with visual projections.

Silk Strings is a 胡琴 (Hu Qin), or Chinese spike fiddle group based in Adelaide. The material ‘silk’ ties each instrument’s history together, as well as countless many other instruments. Founded in 2021, the musicians aim to expand and explore the art of Huqin chamber playing through existing Huqin repertoire, commissioning new works, or collaborating with other art forms across all cultures and fields.

He has premiered several new works for guitar by leading overseas composers and many of his own compositions and arrangements are published in Europe and America.
