The survey ends and Baudin turns homeward
3 June 1803 - 7 July 1803
Baudin pushes east from Timor hoping to chart the Gulf of Carpentaria. He sails against the winds for four weeks but reaches no further east than present day Darwin. Twenty crew are sick, precious emus and kangaroos are refusing to eat, stocks of food and water are desperately low and Baudin is coughing blood. Defeated, Géographe and Casuarina turn around and head for Ile de France.
