The Port Adelaide Ferry Company is established. A twelve metre vessel Unique capable of carrying 60 passengers is built with the ‘unique’ feature of a propeller at each end. Service begins in October for one penny a ride.
Other private ferry ventures shuttle passengers across the Port River until the 1940s. The last ferry is the Lena M built by Jack Murch. Local boys dive into the Port river to try and outswim the sluggish vessel.
