My husband's great grandfather is Captain William James SPELLS (1879-1953), captain of the Karatta from 1907 to 1913. He came from a line a master mariners who worked in SA, (Captain William John Spells 1858-1920 and Captain William Spells 1828-1902). Most of my research comes from Trove and so far have found no further info at the museum. I find interesting that Capt William James Spells, according to an article in Trove, had a chart of Kangaroo Island, dated 1902, tracing the tracks of Flinders (and compiled by Flinders). Is the museum aware of this or have any other info or photos of the Captain Spells? Keen to learn more. Regards,
